We will be OPEN for our VALENTINE'S DAY POETRY CALL with guest reader Clem Flowers from 1/14/2022 to 1/31/2022.
Guidelines Submit ONE poem that encapsulates your interpretation of Valentine's Day. Potential inspirations may be love, loneliness, pastel pink, angels, burning red, any and all sappiness.
Send your poem in a Word document or PDF to email@example.com with a short author bio including your name, pronouns, and Twitter handle (if applicable). Please do not include your poem in the body of your email.
One submission per person.
Selected poems will be published directly on the Blue River website on 2/13/2022.
We are currently CLOSED for general submissions.
Guidelines Safety and Inclusion To keep Blue River safe and inclusive please adhere to the following guidelines: No racism, sexism, ableism, antisemitism, transphobia, fatphobia, or any other iteration of prejudice. No white guilt pieces. If you attempt to harass our editors - or anyone else in the literary community - your email address will be swiftly blocked. If we unintentionally publish an abuser, please inform us immediately. Their work will be removed from our publication and a public apology will be made. While we accept work from all, we especially seek work from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and otherwise marginalized artists. If your work includes graphic or distressing themes (self-harm, suicide, death, sexual assault, etc.), please include a content warning in your submission email to ensure that the Blue River team can give your work the headspace it deserves.
General guidelines Submissions, if accepted, must not be published anywhere else (including self-publishing, blogs, and online publishing) before being published in Blue River. If you are rejected, please feel free to submit again as soon as you would like. Do not submit another packet until we have responded to your first one. If slots begin to fill, reading priority will go to writers who have not yet received a response during the current period. Simultaneous submissions are welcome. Please respond to your initial submission to withdraw your work if it is accepted elsewhere. In the subject of the email, include your full name and the title of your submission. Example: Prose: [NAME, Title of Story] Poetry: [NAME, Title of First Poem] In the body of the email, include a cover letter with your name, pronouns, and social media handles (we love Twitter!) as well as a short 3rd-person bio (200 words max). Include your submission as a .pdf or .doc(x) attachment (NOT in the body of your email) saved with the title of your submission. Response times vary from genre to genre and throughout the submission period. If you are concerned about the status of your submission, feel free to reach out by responding to your initial submission email.
Compensation Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer compensation.
